eSIM not activating or no data? Easy fixes

A calm, step-by-step checklist to get a travel eSIM connected when activation stalls or data refuses to load.
Start with the basics
First, make sure you've actually arrived in the country your plan covers. Most travel eSIMs only connect once you enter the coverage area, so a SIM that looks dead at home is often just waiting.
Next, open your phone's cellular settings and confirm the eSIM line is switched on. It's easy to install a profile and leave the line itself turned off.
Point your phone at the right line
Set the eSIM as your cellular data line. If your home SIM is still the data line, your travel plan won't be used even though it's installed.
Then enable data roaming on the travel eSIM line specifically. For a travel eSIM, this doesn't trigger roaming fees from your home carrier; it just lets the SIM connect to local partner networks. Leave roaming off on your home SIM if you want to avoid its charges.
Reset the connection
Turn on airplane mode, wait about ten seconds, then turn it off to force your phone to search for a network again. If that doesn't work, restart the device fully.
Still nothing? Try entering APN settings manually if your provider lists one, then restart again. A wrong or missing APN is a common reason data won't flow.
When to reinstall
Reinstalling should be a last resort, not a first step. Many eSIM profiles can only be installed once, so deleting one prematurely can leave you stuck.
If you've worked through every step and still have no data, contact your provider before removing anything. They can confirm the plan is active and reissue the profile if it's truly necessary.
